STORY

JACQUES COCO is a brand established in 2018 by JACQUES Bialostozky and Jorge "COCO" Zavala. The first collection released a line of short sleeve button down shirts crafted with a timeless silhouette and eclectic patterns inspired by art archived all over the world. JACQUES COCO celebrates a bold expression of self and nourishes that celebration with deeply rooted principles of environmental stewardship.

The origins lie deep within treasured memories.

A starboard tack on the west side of Santa Cruz island. A morning retreat to the alpaca weavers of the Cusco foothills. A mid-day stroll in La Roma, Mexico City. A cliff dive in Riomagiore. A trek at dusk through the rainforest in Amazonia seeking the Siona tribe. A midnight summit of the Cayambe peak in Ecuador. A deep blue dive in the Sea of Cortez through a sunken Chinese vessel...

Our travels inspired an obsession for design of its own identity. When we returned home we found ourselves hanging up everything we had collected abroad. We decked our walls with film, botanical sketches, segments of rugs, and postage stamps. Our house became a pastiche of art that remained open and unsolved.

One afternoon in Santa Barbara everything came together, and the inception of JACQUES COCO occurred. We designed our own reinterpretations of collected art on exquisite fabric to make shirts. Our hope was to develop a collection of prints that would add an exotic spice to the contemporary wardrobe. The result was vibrant shirts that carry a daring yet harmonious expression of eclectic art. We quickly realized the appreciation for our prints was shared by many.

Shortly after, JACQUES COCO nested itself deep in the hills of Laurel Canyon in Los Angeles. An old and forgotten house with alligators on the entry steps was to be our home, made anew by the inspiration that compelled us to create our brand. Friends gathered, festivities ensued, and our shirts manifested their nature brilliantly in their new home.

Present from the start was Thomas Heegaard, who had been working to manifest our vision in a photo or in a film - to tell a story.

With a mission to become pioneers in environmental stewardship, we knew that our shirts could cause no unnecessary harm to our environment. Selecting new-age sustainable fabrics became paramount to our design process. Beautiful design must go hand in hand with strong environmental standards.

JACQUES COCO seeks to inspire the adventurous soul. We hope that as you ride your journey you find yourself rejoicing with your loved ones, and to the beauty of all cultures, old and new, foreign and familiar.
