ECOCENTRIC DESIGN

Fabrics

JACQUES COCO uses new-age, sustainable fabrics that perform exceptionally well and cause no unnecessary harm to our environment.

Our shirts are made with a Cupro // Viscose blend. Its unbelievable softness, breathability, and long-lasting resilience are why it is often called “The new-age Silk”.

Cupro is made with ultra-fine, up-cycled cotton linter and 100% recycled water. It originates from the tiny bits of fuzz that stick to the Cotton seed and are thrown out after the ginning process. State-of-the-art Japanese mills recover the cotton linter waste, and spin it into fabric your skin will fall in love with.

When Cupro is combined with Viscose, a silky yet peachy texture is produced. A perfect blend. Viscose provides stronger fibers that give the shirt excellent durability. We believe that if a garment is not resilient, it is useless.

Carbon Emissions Offset

Shipping our materials carries the largest environmental impact within our supply chain. To mitigate this externality which comes in the form of greenhouse emissions, JACQUES COCO plants enough Mangrove trees to offset the impact and be left with a net positive effect.

For every shirt we make, we plant 5 Mangrove trees. A single mangrove captures 679 pounds of carbon dioxide throughout its life time. This means that 3,395 pounds of carbon dioxide will be sequestered for every shirt made.

Our partner, The Eden Reforestation Projects, currently reduces extreme poverty by employing local villagers to plant Mangrove trees in Madagascar. Mangroves are vital for coastal ecosystems, and sequester carbon at a rate two to four times greater than mature tropical forests.

Global Recycled Standard

All of our fabrics are certified under The Global Recycled Standard, an international, voluntary, full product standard that sets requirements for third-party certification of recycled content, chain of custody, social and environmental practices, and chemical restrictions. The goal of the GRS is to increase use of recycled materials in products and reduce and eliminate the harm caused by its production.

OEKO - TEX Standard 100

All of our fabrics meet the OEKO -TEX Standard 100, an independent test and certification system. It tests for harmful substances cover: legally banned and controlled substances, chemicals known to be harmful to the health (but not yet legally controlled), parameters for health protection taken in their entirety. The requirements go far beyond existing national legislation.

Packaging Materials

When you purchase a garment from Jacques Coco, everything that comes in the package is fully recycled. Our poly-mailer bags keep the garments safe, and are purely made from recycled plastic. All of the tissue paper used to wrap our garments comes from recycled paper.
